I wonder if the other person or people actually didn't know it when someone is saying to them, "in case you didn't know". In most cases, I think, they have already known it. Although the speaker is trying to pretend it's not a big deal for them, that's often exactly what they really want to tell them most.

「I would be lying if I said」というのは，日本語でもよく耳にする「～というとウソになる」という意味です。ただ，この表現をそのまま使ってしまうと，私だけかもしれませんが，訳文中でそこだけ「浮き上がって」しまうような気がしたので，ここでは敢えて「だってウソつくことになるから」としてあります。

ここまで言っておきながら「ただの念のためだから」という主人公を見て，「カワイイ」と思うのか，それとも「往生際が悪い」と思うのかによって，相手の主人公に対する評価がわかるような気がします。
